** THIS IS AN IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE ALERT ****
The House Finance and Tax Committee released a list on Friday detailing 51 specific sales tax exemptions they plan to “discuss” for potential review during this year’s legislative session. Included on the list are at least five the will have a direct impact on the advertising industry – including the specific exemption for advertising agency services
The Florida Legislature convenes for its regular 60-day session today and the House Finance and Tax Council is scheduled to begin its discussion of the exemptions tomorrow (Wednesday) at its meeting from 4:15 to 6:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m. I have already contacted committee staff, offered to be a resource on the issue, and informed them we intend to testify before the council. The exact schedule for the “discussion’ is being developed now and should be available by the close of business today.
At this point, please watch closely for updates on the issue and be prepared to act if called upon. I will continue to monitor the issue closely and keep you informed of the very latest developments.
The January DBAF luncheon featured a presentation by Sean Tracey, President and Creative Strategist Sean. Mr. Tracey sent the following information...
I'd like to thank all of you who did attend my presentation, taking President Obama's message literally to "stand up, dust ourselves off and drive our economy forward." Instead of hanging around the TV watching the inauguration during work time, you all got out there and networked and listened to a presentation on pumping up advertising efforts during this down economy. Bravo! It was a better than expected turnout. I enjoyed meeting new people from your Ad club. To the many who emailed and requested notes from the presentation...they're on the way. To my old friends Ira Heller and Carl Brigandi from Bright House Networks, thanks for your support. To DBAF President David Baez and VP/Programming Michael Benedict and Ashley Kelly from Benedict Advertising (who invited me to speak), and new friends Nicole, Chris and Darin from BA...can't wait to work with you all.
I've landed in DB four times in as many years—judging your Ad Fed's awards, leading multiple professional development workshops for Bright House, and speaking twice to DBAF. Perhaps I should get a condo? I'm grateful for your positive reception to my ideas and expertise and happy I'm getting to know you all better. If you or your organization would like to invite me to speak, lead a creative workshop for a half or full day, or work with you on a creative branding or advertising campaign (advertiser or agency), you can reach me at sean@seantracey.com. Here's to a prosperous and rewarding 2009 to you all!
Best,
Sean Tracey
