Kathryn McMillan

Video Producer and Locations Scout

Q. Tell us a little about yourself and New Vision Videos.

A: My name is Kathryn McMillan and I’ve been a Video Producer since 1992. I started New Vision Videos in 1996 to help non-profit organizations create awareness of their causes. I’ve written and produced hundreds of television programs, commercials and web videos for small businesses and government agencies. When not working behind the camera on corporate films, I utilize  my camera-eye as a Location Scout helping out of town producers find the perfect location to shoot in Florida!

Q. What do you do for inspiration?

A: I look at beautiful images, go outside into nature, take a destination-less drive and pray for inspiration. God & the Universe never let me down.

Q. What is your all time most memorable moment at New Vision Videos?

A: Working for Steven Spielberg capturing interviews of Holocaust Survivors for his Survivors of the Shoah Foundation.

Q. What’s your favorite project you’ve ever been involved with?

A: There are way too many favorite projects to pick just one because I’ve been very blessed to have great clients. I did travel overseas as a Director of Photography shooting in over 10 countries such as Peru, Burma, China and Thailand. That was an experience!

Q. What does the next 10 years of advertising look like to you?

A: Advertising is constantly changing, and since the younger generations have less attention span and older generations are becoming more tech savvy, I surround myself by both so my future looks bright!

Q. What’s your favorite thing about working in the Daytona Beach area? What do you think Daytona Beach has to offer that other cities don’t?

A: I’ve felt at home here for 30 years and I love that I can work and play in paradise. Just the way it is.

Q. If you weren’t working in advertising, what would you be doing?

A: If I didn’t work in advertising, I’d be a songwriter. Or a starfish.

Q. What advice do you have for students/people just starting out in advertising?

A. Intern. I started as an intern and created an internship program as soon as I landed my first job at a cable network. Just swallow your pride, intern and learn from those before you.

Q. Where can people connect with you or learn more about New Vision Videos?

A. #newvisionvideos has branded itself on youtube, facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest, vimeo, linkedin, and atwww.newvisionvideos.com

Q. Before you go, is there one last piece of wisdom you can drop on us?

A. Find what you love to do, then find someone to pay you for it. Life is too short for drama.

Q. What’s one misconception you would like to see cleared up the advertising scene in Daytona Beach?

A. Just because you own a camera, doesn’t mean you are a video production company or agency. There are reasons why we write what we write, shoot what we shoot, add the effects we edit, and distribute to who the audience really is and should be. It’s science, skill, and luck.

Q. What do you regard as being your biggest achievement? (Personal, professional, individual or as a biz owner)

A. Doing what I love and making a difference in people’s lives.

Q.What's your favorite part of your job? What's the hardest part of your job? What do you do when you get stuck?

A. When I get stuck, I pray.Q.If there are any pivotal experiences/decisions you could point to that helped shape your career, what would they be?

Q. What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

A. A camera.
