Mike Whan, Commissioner of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), will speak about “Role Reversal” and how it changed the LPGA, giving his philosophies on business, marketing and leadership. This month's event will be held at the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in Daytona Beach on Thursday, September 27, 2018.
Since becoming its commissioner in 2010, Mike Whan has led the resurgence of the LPGA Tour. By focusing on opportunities of growing tournaments, enhancing business relationships and elevating the LPGA experience for both fans and players, Mike has made a global impact on the growth of the game.
Throughout his tenure, the LPGA Tour has increased its number of events from 23 in 2011 to 33 in 2018. Events are held in 14 countries and aired in 175 countries, bringing LPGA stars to 500 million households around the world. This year, players are competing for a record $68.75 million in total prize money.
Key partnerships with the Symetra Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf and the LPGA’s Teaching & Club Professionals divisions have also led to impressive growth. Most recently, the LPGA welcomed the Executive Women’s Golf Association into the LPGA family as the newly named LPGA Amateur Golf Association, an initiative focused on creating more opportunities for women to play the game.
